Bike Accident: Buhari’s Family Shops For Air Ambulance To Fly Son Abroad

Nigeria’s First Family is making efforts to get an air ambulance to convey its only son, Yusuf Buhari, to a German hospital for better medical attention, according to a report from Abuja, the Nigerian capital.

The report, by the large-circulating Daily Sun, said that Cedacrest Hospital, Gudu Abuja, where Yusuf is currently receiving treatment, has an affiliation with the unnamed German hospital.

This is even as specialists at the Abuja hospital have reportedly advised explain the first family that it was dangerous to move him out in his current state, the report said.

It quoted a source as saying: “The last time they mentioned flying him abroad for better treatment, the medical team advised them against it because the boy needs to be in a good condition before he leaves.

"But they do not seem to be satisfied with the advice and they are seriously considering flying him out.”

Yusuf, who last July graduated from the University of Surrey, Guildford, England, alongside his sister Zarah, was rushed to the hospital following an accident while racing against is best friend, Bashir Gwandu, on Tuesday night.

Malam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, had on Wednesday afternoon confirmed the accident via a short statement that read:

“Yusuf Buhari had a bike accident last night around Gwarimpa in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“He broke a limb and had an injury to the head as a result. He has undergone surgery at a clinic in Abuja. He is in a stable condition.

“The President and his wife, Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, are thankful to Nigerians for the good wishes and prayers for their son.

“May God reward you all.”

Yusuf’s mother, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, Senate President Bukola Saraki, his wife Toyin, and the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, were among dignitaries allowed to see the ailing Yusuf yesterday at Cedacrest Hospital.
