The National Assembly on Wednesday dramatically was turned into a theatre of the absurd during presentation of the 2019 proposed budget by President Muhammadu Buhari.
While opposition lawmakers booed the President as he highlighted some of the successes so far recorded by his administration, others refused to allow both the Senate President and the Speaker respond to the President's joint address.
The actions of the lawmakers made the President to issue a warning, saying: “The world is watching us and we are supposed to be above this.”
The lawmakers who exercised a little patience after President Buhari's warning, threw all cautions to the wind, stood on their feet, refusing to allow both Senate President Bukonla Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara to respond to Buhari's address.
While some lawmakers of the ruling party clapped for the President as he reeled out the successes recorded under his administration so far, others in the opposition could be heard countering his claims, saying, “Lie, lie, that is real wack”, “propaganda”.
Earlier, It was a pitch fight and protest by some of the lawmakers ahead of the walking in of President Muhammadu Buhari into the House of Representatives chamber as he came to present the 2019 budget appropriation before the joint session of the two chambers of the National Assembly.
Many lawmakers were seen with placards singing protest song – freedom come, by struggle, by struggle.
This rowdy session was mainly engaged by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lawmakers as the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers were seen struggling with their counterparts to quell the protest.
