...Smuggling usually takes place at night, FRSC ends patrol at 6 p.m. -Alhaji Bakare

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has debunked a rumour and report that the Corps was among the security agencies aiding and abetting smuggling of rice and other goods into the country.
Speaking on behalf of the Corps, its Badagry Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander Fatai Adesina Bakare, said FRSC is a reputable organisation, distinct itself from anything that could tarnish it's image.
He faulted a report in yesterday's edition of The Nation Newspaper, outlining that Customs, Police, FRSC and other security agents abet smuggling of rice and other goods into the country.
The Commander said there's no way FRSC could involve in such operations because all activities of their patrol operatives are well monitored.
The FRSC Badagry Unit Commnder added that majority of the smugglers' operation were carried out in the night while FRSC end it's patrol at 1800hours (6.00pm) daily.
He said there is no way FRSC could stop the smugglers while on the wheel because they move in convoy with excess speed, violent and ready to kill whoever trying to interrupted their movement even the security agencies that carry arms.
Commander Bakare said majority of the smugglers were armed with local charms and weapons, while FRSC operatives doesn't carry arms.
He appealed to the public to disregard such allegations against the Corps, adding that FRSC would on conditions work in contrary with the Federal Government’s policies, saying their primary assignment is to make road safe for the users and does not aiding or abetting smuggling. Anyone doubting this report could equally do more investigations, he added.
