Social miscreants, a.k.a. "area boys" who may want to seize the festive period of Christmas and New Year celeberation, may wish to have a re-think as police in Lagos state have begun manhunt for them.
According to security reports by TheCaveat.info, the police are to be complement by officials of the state Task Force on Environmental Offences, in the operation.
Already men of the Task Force and detectives from Ikeja police divisional headquarters and those from the state criminal Investigation department on Musuliu Smith street, Yaba, have been observed either taken strategic position or seen raiding suspected persons from Ikeja to Lagos Island, to Epe and Ikorodu,
A source who spoke to TheCaveat.info revealed that the boss of the SCIID, Mrs Yetunde Longe, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, acting on a marching order from her boss, Mr Edgal Imohimi, the state police commissioner, has for the past 12 days, tasked her officers to send parking undesirable elements from the state.
The source who disclosed that no fewer than 178 suspects have been quizzed within this period in review, said that the action is yielding fruits as peace has begun to reign in notorius places such as Mushin, Ketu (Akanimodo and Ajelogo markets), Ikoto Malam in ojota and other places in the state.
The Task Force Officials, with a stern warning from the Commander, Mr. Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, said that any official who indiscriminately shoot at any one would not only be dismissed, but face the wrath of the law.
Egbeyemi is said to have led his men to Ojo, Iyana-Iba, Lagos Island where no fewer than 200 suspects were nabbed, questioned, as those found to be clean were released without delay.
As Egbeyemi and his officials are in hot chase of suspects, touts at the popular Computer village are in for trouble as no fewer than 23 of such persons were arrested by a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer DPO, for Ikeja, Mr Emmanuel Onas, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP.
TheCaveat.info was told that those found wanting in the raid would be charged to court.
Meanwhile, Longe has placed her officers from sensitive sections on red alert for hoodlums who always use fire crackers to intimidate and coerced their victims in seasons like this.
Contacted, the police spokesperson, CSP Chile Oti confirmed the clamp down on suspects in the state, saying that his boss, Edgal Imohimi, is taking proactive measures to ensure that the Yuletides are devoid of criminal activities.
