Ogun CIOTA Executives Meet With South-West Coordinator, Resolve On Data Collation of Members As First Priority

The Ogun State branch of the Chartered Institute of Transport Admnistration of Nigeria (CIOTA), on Monday, had its first meeting with the South-West Coordinator of the Institute, Dr (Prince) 'Seni Ogunyemi, and resolved to make data collation of members in the state the first priority. 

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the state Chairman, Mr Ajibade Adekunle said the meeting with the South-West Coordinator was also necessary to facilitate meeting with other stakeholders, including the state Deputy Governor. 

According to Ajibade, having the knowledge of numerical strength of all members of CIOTA through data collation from approved private and public organizations would enhance proper membership harmonization of the institute. 

"In order to achieve this objective, we resolved to move to public and private sectors, including Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), Transport Ministry, tertiary institutes where transport is taught as a professional course. 

"We have been mandated to go on membership drive by professionalising CIOTA in all approved Public and private sectors. 

"In accordance with the Act that establishes CIOTA, there will be no promotion above level 10 for anyone who is not a CIOTA member

"Still on membership drive, we are to launch into getting fresh membership by sentisyling new students of CIOTA membership before gratuation. Move to Universities and all citadel of learning and introduce CIOTA to them. 

"Besides, We are to sell to the general public and sentisize them on the objectives of the institute as laid down by the Act as a Professional just like other professional bodies. 

"It is equally our resolves to set standards of practice and determine the knowledge and skills to be attained by seeking to become registered members of the institute and practice as Chartered Transport. 

"We are to organize and conduct seminars, workshop, conference and research in all aspects of Transport management and provide professional training for persons aspiring to qualify and practice as Chartered Transportants in Nigeria. 

"We shall also give recognition of honorary awards to individuals", he said.
